Getting there

The Schauinsland mountain lies 20km south of Freiburg, 50km north of Switzerland (Basel) and 50km east of France (Colmar) and has excellent transport links.

Here’s how you can get to us up on the Schauinsland:

By car

Just 400m south of the upper station of the Schauinslandbahn (cable car) you will find a large number of free parking spaces just above the toboggan lift. As you come closer, you will find brown road signs “Schlittenlift” along the access road. The road is well signposted all over Freiburg and therefore easy to find, look out for signs showing Schauinsland with cable car symbol.

Approximate travelling times:
• Freiburg Centre – Toboggan lift 30min
• Freiburg Centre – lower cable car station 10min
• BAB (motorway) A5 Freiburg Mitte – Toboggan lift 45min
• • BAB A5 Freiburg Mitte – lower cable car station 25min

By public transport Schauinslandbahn and Südbadenbus (SBG)

There are two ways to get to us by public transport:

Getting to us by Schauinslandbahn, the longest circulating cable car in Germany, is an adventure in itself. Since 1930, the cable car has been gliding along the 3.6km long route from Freiburg to the Schauinsland. You can enjoy the 20min journey in cable cars for up to 7 passengers which run as often as every 2 minutes, depending on demand, and travel at around 3.5 m/s (13 km/h). Toboggans can be transported on the Schauinslandbahn free of charge.
If you take the tram line N° 2 + Bus 21 and then the Schauinslandbahn (running daily from 9am to 5pm) it will take around 60 minutes to get from the centre of Freiburg to the Schauinsland and then another 10 minutes on foot to the toboggan lift.

You can also easily reach the toboggan lift from the Dreisamtal by taking the SBG bus number 7215 Kirchzarten-Schauinsland-Todtnau: From Kirchzarten station it will take you 25 minutes to the stop Schauinsland Halde. From there it’s a 10 minute walk to the toboggan lift.
Coming from the direction of Wiesental, from Todtnau you can also use the SBG-bus number 7215, in the opposite direction.
